The company told NDTV Gadgets that the Karbonn Titanium S6 will be launched in the second week of July and more importantly it will have a price tag of under Rs 20,000. The S6 will ship with Android Jelly Bean (either 4.1 or 4.2) and will come with a stylus, like the Galaxy Note series. Instead of going for a MediaTek chip, Karbonn said the S6 will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC; however, there’s no mention of which processor and GPU combination it is likely to be.
Karbonn would want to eat into Micromax’s share in the market, so a price tag of under Rs 20,000 would suit them just fine. Our sources have told us that the upcoming Canvas 4 will be priced between Rs 23,000 and Rs 25,000. And the Canvas 4 is expected to have similar specs to the Titanium S6, so it could boil down, as it often does, to a price battle.
Karbonn and Micromax are following the announcement of two other low-cost smartphones with 1080p display. The WickedLeak Wammy Desire Z (see our review of the Desire Z) and the Lemon A4 have both been launched recently. So it looks like the market for Indian 1080p smartphones is just heating up.
