Lava Iris 458q Review - Is it the Quad Core you are looking for?

Lava Iris 458q is one of the trending low budget phone, because of it’s 1.2 GHz Quad Core feature. Everyone had questioned me , whether is it worth or not? I’ve been noticing phones from Micromax, Karbonn, XOLO, Lava and other secondary companies. They launch phones with high specifications in a low price and compete it with top level companies like Samsung, Nokia, Sony etc. And this post is all about the review of Lava Iris 458q, another damn cheap phone with heavy specification. I was just shocked when I saw the price tag, and you’ll be too! The stunning feature in this phone is, it arrives with 1.2 GHz Quad core processor, there isn’t a phone below Rs. 10, 000 with Quad core. This the first phone of Lava running with Quad core processors. You would have seen many Lava Iris 458q unboxing videos at YouTube or specs at GSMarena, Gogi. But I would have covered the main points which you would come to know only by reviewing it in-depth.

Have a look at the brandy Quad Core phone which comes into the market at damn cheap price – Lava Iris 458Q

Display

I’ll call this as the perfectly sized device, it comes with 4.5 Inches display, which fits into anybody hands compact. I’ve used 5 Inches phone like Galaxy Grand, those phones are awesome in design, but when it comes to usage, you have to stress yourself to have the phone in your hands while you are in bed, or listening to music and other stuffs. As I said, the phone has a 4.5 Inches IPS LCD display and 480*854 FWVGA resolution and supports up to 16 Million colors. Many companies offer capacitive touchscreen, but when they are used, you have to RUB your hands to make a swipe, but this screen has no issues about the touch. The only slight disadvantage is the screen glares under direct sunlight. I won’t recommend it for extreme outdoor use. Rest than that, everything is fine.

Operating System

Lava Iris 458q comes packed with Android 4.2 OS, which it the latest at present. There are only countable number of phones in the market running with Android 4.2, and those phones are highly expensive. We all hope that, Lava Iris 458q receive continuous Android updates from the company.

Performance

Here is where the important part, the phone comes with 1.2 GHz Quad Core cortex A7 Processor, which is more then enough to run high end games and heavy applications. The GPU is powered by PowerVR SGX544MP for seamless gaming.

Storage

The phone comes with an internal storage of 2GB and the user memory will also be around 2GB. You can store tons of apps in the internal memory for 2GB. If you think, it isn’t enough, you have the second chance, use your SD card and expand the storage upto 32GB. About the memory, the phone has a 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM, the RAM could be made as 1GB, anyway, you can’t expect these much features for a cheap price.

Camera

Here is the part where every Android user including me get disappoints. The phone comes with 8MP Camera, but the quality of the camera is just like 5MP, you can’t expect anything more than Quad core.

At the back, you can see the 8MP Camera, LED Flash near to it. and also the brandy model name embedded there.

It has a LED flash and all other traditional features like Smile Detection, Panorama, Auto Focus etc. If you are a good photographer, go for HTC One, it comes with UltraPixel camera but priced at Rs. 40,000. You could go with DSLR instead. Anyway, the choice is yours! The phone has a 0.3 MP Camera at the front, for video calling and those stuffs.

Battery

The phone comes with 2000mAH, which can give lift upto 5-6 hours of extreme usage under Wi-Fi. If you want a better battery life, you can download any Battery Saver app from the Play Store.

Connectivity

The phone supports Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, A-GPS just like the other phones do.

Pre-loaded Apps

The phone comes pre-loaded with all necessary apps.

The phone comes with some apps installed like Saavn, Cricket Fever, WeChat, PayTm, MX Player and still you can download your favorite ones from the Play Store. Don’t forget, the play store contains more than 7Lakh Applications. That’s Huge.. Right?

Dual SIM

Here comes an important point, I am not talking about the Dual SIM Feature. As you know, the phone supports Dual SIMs and there are two slots for two SIMs. The SIM 1 Slot supports GSM Network, while the SIM2 supports CDMA Network. Now, both users can make use of the phone.

Sensors

Above the display, the top panel consists of the necessary Sensors like the Ambient Light, Motion, Proximity and the Gravity Sensor.

Price in India

The phone comes with a price tag of Rs. 8,500 at the major online stores in India like Flipkart, Infibeam. You can bargain a bit in local stores in your city.

Alternatives of this phone

You don’t need any alternative for this phone, but still you can try XOLO Q700, Karbonn S1. If you have a bit high budget, you can do for the Micromax Canvas Series.

Pros:

Cheap Quad Core phone
SIM card supports both GSM and CDMA Network
8MP Camera
Jumbo Battery
Android 4.2

Cons:

RAM could be better
No accessories in the box like Back Panel, Flip cover.
Low Camera quality

Final Verdict of reviewer:

I would just define this phone in two words “Must Buy”. The disadvantages mentioned above contains silly things, which wont matter to you while the phone is in usage. The phone has a good build quality having a dimension of 133.5 x 67 x 11.9 mm and has a 3.5 mm jack. It is available in only one color, and it is the awesome black. The phone looks pretty good in all aspects. I don’t see anything Big disadvantage on Lava Iris 458q. You can buy it with your eyes closed for just Rs. 8,500 in your favorite online store.

  1. Thanks for your review.

But are you sure about "SIM card supports both GSM and CDMA Network"?

It must be 3G support not CDMA.
